Is that another blog post?

Blogs like this one are always born from a dream. A dream that entails you becoming a ”known” writer, who attracts thousands of visitors to his site and holds hundreds of subscribers, with people throwing around links to your blog like it’s some kind of internet phenomenon. Sometimes when you’re having a really wild dream you envisage yourself being invited to various blog award ceremonies, writing for numerous popular magazines and just generally leading a comfortable life where you get to travel a lot and get paid to do what you absolutely love.

Of course, once you actually set up your blog, your hopes and dreams are crushed by something we call, ”the real world.” The process of realization is usually very quick. You sit at your desk, with your drink of choice, carefully pondering what you should write about while scouring the internet looking for some kind of inspiration. You admit to yourself that starting a blog is definitely going to be a lot more hard work then you first thought but eventually, however, (it’s usually when you’ve finished your drink) you realize for the first time that creating a successful blog requires more than just a vague idea. You understand that those people who seemingly waffle on about their daily lives are actually talented writers who are capable of making what may seem like the most trivial of things, very entertaining and that you’re just another guy with another blog.

You’re now cursing your own naivety and trying to figure out whether or not this whole blog thing is still worth trying. After all, why the hell would people read my blog instead of one of the other hundreds of successful blogs already out there? Some people just quit at this point but others get a little selfish and decide that a blog isn’t for everyone but themselves. A blog, at the end of the day, is meant to be an outlet for yourself and you should get as much out of it as anyone else.

So, now that I’ve decided to write on this blog, I guess you can call me a selfish bastard.
